Nous voilà reparti avec les Living room concerts, une très belle diversité d’artistes vont nous rendre visite cette saison, nous allons recevoir dans notre salon des univers musicaux aussi divers que passionnant, et le début de ce voyage va nous emmener en Inde, avec des maîtres de la musique classique Indienne, Suman Sarkar qui est déjà passé par chez nous et Partha Bose. Pour ceux qui n’ont pas encore eut l’occasion, d’assister à un concert de musique classique Indienne, c’est une expérience très puissante.

Partha Bose, au sitar, est un représentant majeur de la Maihar Gharana, l’une des grandes traditions de la musique classique hindoustanie. Initié au sitar dès l’âge de six ans à Kolkata par Pandit Monoj Shankar, il a développé une carrière internationale et s’est produit dans de grands festivals sur les cinq continents. Son parcours a été distingué par plusieurs récompenses, dont le Nikhil Banerjee Memorial Award, le Sangeet Ratna et le titre de Vādya Shiromani.

Suman Sarkar, au tabla, est profondément enraciné dans la tradition rythmique de la musique classique hindoustanie. Formé auprès de grands maîtres des traditions d’Ajrara et de Delhi, il mène depuis les années 1980 une carrière internationale, collaborant avec de nombreux grands artistes de la musique indienne et explorant également les rencontres avec le jazz et l’improvisation.

Réunis pour ce concert, Partha Bose et Suman Sarkar proposent un dialogue entre sitar et tabla, où la mélodie, le rythme et l’improvisation se développent dans une écoute mutuelle constante. À travers l’interprétation des ragas et la richesse du langage rythmique du tabla, les deux musiciens font vivre une tradition musicale où chaque concert devient une rencontre unique, entre virtuosité, spontanéité et émotion.

Daar zijn we weer met de Living Room Concerts! Dit seizoen ontvangen we een prachtige waaier aan artiesten in onze salon, met muzikale werelden die stuk voor stuk even divers als meeslepend zijn. We openen het seizoen in India, met twee meesters van de Indiase klassieke muziek: Suman Sarkar, die eerder al bij ons speelde, en Partha Bose. Wie nog nooit een concert Indiase klassieke muziek heeft bijgewoond, staat een bijzonder krachtige ervaring te wachten.

Partha Bose speelt sitar en geldt als een belangrijke vertegenwoordiger van de Maihar Gharana, een van de grote tradities binnen de Hindoestaanse klassieke muziek. Hij werd al op zijn zesde in Kolkata ingewijd door Pandit Monoj Shankar en bouwde van daaruit een internationale carrière uit, met optredens op grote festivals over de hele wereld. Zijn werk werd onder meer bekroond met de Nikhil Banerjee Memorial Award, de Sangeet Ratna en de titel Vādya Shiromani.

Suman Sarkar bespeelt de tabla en staat stevig geworteld in de ritmische traditie van de Hindoestaanse klassieke muziek. Hij leerde het vak bij grote meesters uit de Ajrara- en Delhi-traditie en is sinds de jaren 1980 internationaal actief. Hij speelde samen met tal van grote namen uit de Indiase muziek en zocht ook de grens op met jazz en improvisatie.

Voor dit concert gaan Partha Bose en Suman Sarkar met elkaar in dialoog: sitar en tabla, melodie en ritme, die in voortdurend luisteren naar elkaar de ruimte krijgen om te groeien. Via de raga’s en de rijke ritmiek van de tabla laten de twee musici een traditie herleven waarin elk concert opnieuw een unieke ontmoeting wordt — vol virtuositeit, spontaniteit en emotie.

Here we go again with the Living Room Concerts! This season a wonderful diversity of artists will be visiting us, and we’ll be welcoming musical worlds into our living room that are as varied as they are exciting. The start of this journey takes us to India, with masters of Indian classical music: Suman Sarkar, who has already performed with us before, and Partha Bose. For those who haven’t yet had the chance to attend an Indian classical music concert, it’s a very powerful experience.

Partha Bose, on sitar, is a major representative of the Maihar Gharana, one of the great traditions of Hindustani classical music. Initiated into the sitar at the age of six in Kolkata by Pandit Monoj Shankar, he went on to build an international career, performing at major festivals across all five continents. His journey has been recognized with several awards, including the Nikhil Banerjee Memorial Award, the Sangeet Ratna, and the title of Vādya Shiromani.

Suman Sarkar, on tabla, is deeply rooted in the rhythmic tradition of Hindustani classical music. Trained by great masters of the Ajrara and Delhi traditions, he has pursued an international career since the 1980s, collaborating with many great artists of Indian music and also exploring encounters with jazz and improvisation.

Coming together for this concert, Partha Bose and Suman Sarkar offer a dialogue between sitar and tabla, in which melody, rhythm, and improvisation unfold through constant mutual listening. Through the interpretation of ragas and the richness of the tabla’s rhythmic language, the two musicians bring to life a musical tradition in which every concert becomes a unique encounter, one of virtuosity, spontaneity, and emotion.
