After scouring the stages of Belgian and European jazz clubs as a double bassist, Axel Gilain puts down his double bass and returns to his first loves, singing and guitar. The desire to take control and distance himself from his role as a side-man appeared already in 2013 with a quartet album “Talking to the Mlouk”, still on double bass, followed in 2014 by Kangling’s first album “Echoes of Distant Voices”, and then “Graceful Machines” in 2019 and “Dancing on my Own” in 2022. Today, Axel opens a new chapter, alone on stage. With the urge to go further, he takes the time to develop the scenography and gives more importance to the lighting and the writing of the show to deliver himself even more intimately.
To present his new solo album, Axel Gilain unveils his songs, voice, and guitar, interspersed with sounds, thoughts, and snippets of interviews triggered on a cassette player, an imperfect and nostalgic object. A post-mortem reconstruction or a waking dream during which the cinematic light cuts this intimate journey into scenes, bathed in silences and breaths.
